About the project:

‘Fables At The Kitchen Table’ is Stute Theatre’s new theatre piece for children adapted from Aesop’s Fables. These much-loved fables will be brought to life using inventive storytelling, puppetry and live music. The project has been designed to be Covid-secure, and will feature rehearsal and creation of both a live theatre offer, and a second, tailored digital storytelling piece.

‘Fables At The Kitchen Table’ is a Stute Theatre production delivered in partnership with Manchester Libraries, Spot On, Tameside Libraries and Wirral Libraries, supported by Arts Council England and Big Imaginations.

We are seeking a recent graduate (someone who graduated in the 2018 or later) to participate in a 6 day paid work experience placement during February and March 2021. 

We’re looking for an individual with:

  • A recent degree in Theatre, Theatre Design, Drama or Performance (or equivalent qualifications.)

  • A Greater Manchester base.

  • A desire to develop skills which will enable them to create and produce their own work in the future.

  • An interest in creating theatre for children and their families.

  • We anticipate at least some of the rehearsals, or meetings, will happen remotely, so the ideal candidate would also have access to a stable internet connection.

 We are particularly interested in supporting artists from under-represented backgrounds. Please let us know in your application if this applies to you.

What we can offer:

  • The opportunity to attend rehearsals and work with a highly skilled creative team, to develop and deliver an exciting new piece aimed at children aged 3 - 7.

  • An opportunity to work with a diverse range of project partners from across the North West.

  • Support and mentoring from a range of sources, including both producing and creative/artistic support.

  • The opportunity to explore a range of working practices, including both live and digital theatre offers.

  • A fully risk assessed, Covid-secure working environment.

Timeframe:

  • Deadline for applications – 6PM Monday 8 February

  • Applicants notified of shortlisting for interviews – Wednesday 10 February

  • Interviews held – Friday 12 February (AM)

  • Rehearsals commence in Tameside w/c 22 February, exact working schedule TBC.

  • Performances will commence from early March

Please note, the successful applicant will be asked to attend 3 in-person rehearsal and/or filming days w/c 22 February, as well as production meetings, mentoring sessions, evaluation sessions and some live digital performances.

Fee:

We can offer a total fee of £780 inclusive of all expenses. This fee is calculated on 6 days of work time at £120/day plus a contribution of £60 towards travel expenses.

This is a freelance contract and the successful candidate will need to confirm that they can be responsible for their own tax and National Insurance payments.
