Call Out For a Recent Graduate Assistant Director

As part of an upcoming production, Stute Theatre is seeking a recent theatre graduate for a short Paid Assistant Director Placement.

This role is a paid work experience placement, open to recent theatre graduates with a specific interest in developing their skills as a Theatre Director.

Please note, as we are limited in the travel and accommodation expenses we can offer for this role, we are ideally seeking individuals with a base in or near Scarborough, or with a connection to the local area.

This is to allow the successful candidate to get the most out of this opportunity.

About the project:

‘I Am No Bird’ is a new show by Sophia Hatfield and Lisa Cagnacci, which explores the Bronte sisters and their work through a contemporary lens. It features spoken word, fast-paced, inventive storytelling and live music.

This production will rehearse in Scarborough 

We’re looking for an individual with: 

  • A recent degree in Theatre, Drama or Performance, or equivalent qualifications.

    (Graduated within the last 3 years.)

    OR

  • An early career artist who can clearly demonstrate that they would benefit from this placement opportunity.

  • A Scarborough base or links to the area

  • A desire to develop directing and theatre making skills.

  • An interest in learning more about directing theatre for community, rural and library spaces.

We are particularly interested in supporting artists from under-represented backgrounds. Please let us know in your application if this applies to you. 

What we can offer:

The opportunity to attend rehearsals for up to 6 paid days as Assistant Director and to work alongside our skilled creative team, as we realise our touring production.

An opportunity to learn from our project partners from across the North and North West.

Support and mentoring sessions from a range of sources, including both producing and creative/artistic support.

Ongoing support and advice from the Stute Theatre core team after the placement, as you continue to grow your creative practise.

Timeframe:

  • Deadline for applications – Midnight on Tuesday 8 February 2022.

  • Applicants notified of shortlisting for interviews no later than Thursday 11 February

  • Interviews held – Monday 14th February (AM)

Rehearsals commence in Scarborough w/c 11 April.

Technical rehearsals commence Mon 25th April

Show opens Weds 27th April

Please note, the successful applicant will need to be available for 6 full days during the rehearsal period. These dates can be negotiated flexibly around other work or caring commitments.

Fee:

We can offer a total fixed fee of £720. This fee is calculated on 6 paid days at £120/day.

We can also offer a contribution of up to £200 towards travel, accommodation expenses or other expenses incurred.

This is a freelance contract and the successful candidate will need to confirm in writing that they are legally entitled to work in the UK and that they can be responsible for their own tax and National Insurance payments.
